Villanova kicks of July with a bang with a commitment from a highly regarded forward. It is the calm before the July storm, but there is a lot of recruiting updates around the internet today with information on players such as Dominic Cheek at the U-18 Team Trials, Aaric Murray looking forward to a big July, Talib Zanna making a name for himself among recruiters and an introduction to B-More’s Donte Holmes.
High school players continue to move from school to school. There is an update on Lamont Jones, who is in search of a school, Daryus Quarles and Omari Lawrence are other Big East targets on the move as well.
There is also a look at four Chicago-area players to watch this month. Lance Stephenson’s father has a school in mind for his son. Could a Pitt-Memphis match-up come together for Madison Square Garden this December?

A quick run through the Big East today and we find Rick Pitino excited for the upcoming season as he stays busy during the basketball down time. Isaiah Epps, a coveted 2010 recruit heads to ACC country for a visit. Several Big East schools will hope they still have a shot after his visit.
There is a little more on the South Florida recent 2009 verbal commitment with the famous basketball father. Andre Gillette has a couple Big East schools showing interest. A few of the ex-Indiana players have the Big East conference in their sights. Rutgers has an almnus return for a position within their basketball program and the wait is nearly over for Joe Alexander and it will be known on Thursday night where Joe will go in the NBA draft.

With all the action this past week, we have neglected our Daily News and Notes for a few days, well, it is back today and jam-packed with information from around the Big East.
West Virginia might be close to adding a late big man to their 2008 recruiting class. The Mountaineers are one of three Big East schools on the final four list of potential destinations for a very good transfer from Iowa State.
Notre Dame welcomes their new faces into the program while the Irish will prepare this summer for a trip to Ireland. ND, as well as WVU, announce the majority of their non-conference slates and there is a look at what promises to be the top 20 marquee non-conference match-ups for 2008-2009.
Recruiting updates can also be found on Aaric Murray, Kevin Parrom, Markus Kennedy, Donald Williams, David Brown, Aaron Crosby, Josh Sewell and ‘Mo Mo’ Jones. Rick Pitino gives a run down on his squad as summer approaches and the NABC wants to end the real early commitment trend before it gets even more ridiculous.

2010 Upstate NY prospect is among highest recruited in class
June 15th represented the first day college coaches could call prospects of the class of 2010. Since that day, the phone of Taran Buie has been ringing constantly.
Buie, a 6-foot guard out of Bishop Maginn High School in Albany (NY) and standout for the City Rocks AAU program, is a name that has not generated a lot of attention nationally in the media to date. However, judging by the coaches that have reached out to him the first chance they were allowed to, college coaches are VERY aware of his talents.

A little bit of a quiet day around the conference. Jeff Goodman takes a look at some possible late additions to Big East rosters heading into next season and we have a recruiting update on Talib Zanna to pass on to readers. Also, the home of the Big East Tournament will look to get back into hosting the NCAA Tournament following a large renovation project.
Two more 2008-2009 Snapshots (Notre Dame and Pittsburgh) coming later this afternoon.
