BIG EAST TEAMS LIKE DANTE TAYLOR
National Christian Academy Forward has offers from Pitt, WVU & UConn, among others
During the spring AAU circuit, National Christian Academy’s Dante Taylor, a 6′9 power forward, cemented his place among the top players nationally in the class of 2009. At the Southern Jam Fest, Alex Schwartz got a chance to catch up with Taylor and learn about his recruitment and find which Big East program was his ‘dream school’ as he was growing up.
Dante Taylor is originally from Rochester (NY), but he has been attending school and playing AAU ball for Trevor Brown’s powerful National Christian Academy program in Fort Washington (MD) in recent years. Always a player on the national radar, the strong and athletic Taylor has cemented his place as one of the class of 2009’s top power forwards on the AAU circuit so far this spring. He will attempt to bolster his ranking among the top players over the summer before really getting into the process of deciding where to play his college basketball.
When asked on a time frame of taking college visits, Taylor did not feel any sense of urgency, “I don’t really know, probably the beginning of next year or something like that,” Taylor responded. Asked if he knew who he would like to visit, you could tell Taylor really has not begun to think too much of the process to this point with the answer of “No, not really.”
Taylor’s lack of concentration on the recruiting process has not kept schools from concentrating on him. With scholarship offers from schools such as Pittsburgh, Maryland, West Virginia, UNC-Charlotte and Connecticut, and broadening interest from schools such as Syracuse, Kansas, Villanova, Georgetown and Seton Hall, Taylor will have plenty of attractive options of schools to visit and ultimately decide on to play his college basketball with.
One school on his list has had his attention for quite some time while growing up in Big East territory. “When I first started playing basketball, I wanted to go to UConn,” Taylor shared. “But now since everybody’s looking at me, I pretty much don’t have a favorite right now.”
Taylor also shared a few thoughts on his game with Schwartz:
Biggest Strength: “Probably my quickness and rebounding.”
Biggest Weakness: “Probably playing with my back to the basket.”
Favorite Part of Playing Basketball: “Offense.”
We will continue to follow the recruitment of Dante Taylor this summer.
