Plus, read on below for more Big East News & Notes, including a very angry Mike Tranghese, the Big East commissioner, as he responds to the end-of-game circus and following press conference after Sunday’s Seton Hall-Rutgers contest. Also, some new recruiting information gathered from the web, including a feature on Pitt-bound Nasir Robinson and St. John’s has interest in a senior guard teammate of his. There is a note on West Virginia recruiting and another look at the current state of Devin Ebanks recruitment.
Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese is VERY upset with Rutgers head coach Fred Hill and Seton Hall head coach Bobby Gonzalez for their actions during Sunday’s thrilling Rutgers win. He referred to their display as ‘embarrassing’ in what transpired during the end-of-game circus and the Big East Commission is Angry over the Rutgers-Seton hall Ending (Chicago Tribune). The Big East Commish Weighs In (Hoops on Hoops) and Dick Weiss expects some form of suspension to be handed down for each coach.
“This league started with Dave Gavitt, my predecessor, and the one thing we’ve always taken pride in . . is our teams play hard with a lot of integrity,” said Tranghese. “I’m embarrassed about what happened Sunday. I was embarrassed for our conference, our coaches and our schools.
“It’s not going to happen again.”

The Chester Clippers coninue their quest for a state title tonight when they meet Dalton Pepper and his Pennsbury teammates at the famed Palestra on the Penn campus. Nasir Robinson, a Pitt commit, has been an a mission since the Clippers dropped last year’s state title game, 78-71, to Pittsburgh Schenley, led by future Pitt teammate DeJaun Blair and Big East rival DJ Kennedy (St. John’s). Robinson is the steadying influence on the Chester team as Chester’s Foreman Gives Clippers Reinforcement (DelCo Times). Robinson is averaging over 15 points, 11 rebounds and nearly 4 assists a game.
Pennsbury Looks Forward to Chester (Philly Inquirer) challenge and will rely on Pepper, who averages 23 points and 10 rebounds, to lead them. Pepper has Villanova, West Virginia and Seton Hall on his short list of prospective colleges.
With Pennsbury Hoping to Slay the Dragon (Evening Bulletin) they know keeping Karon Burton under control will be a big key, for both teams. Burton, just 5’8, is one of the most exciting players in the class, but he can get out of control at times, or be hard to control for opponents. Auburn and St. John’s are among the current schools recruiting Burton.
