31) RYAN GOMES

31. Ryan Gomes: Providence - (2001-05) Waterbury, CT

Four years: 18.4 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 1.6 spg, 51.9% FG, 35.2% 3FG, 78.9% FT

First Team Consensus All-American (2004)

Consistent 6’7” 250 pound forward who always left a piece of himself on the floor- even his shoes which he famously left at mid-court during the final seconds of the last game of his college career.

Showed promise as a freshman, averaging 13.8 ppg and 7.8 rpg, while shooting 55.9% from the field, but it was as a sophomore that Gomes showed he was a star. That season Gomes averaged 18.4 ppg and 9.7 rpg, while shooting 53.7% from the floor and an excellent 84.0% from the line. Showing his versatility, he also averaged 1.7 spg. As a junior, Gomes was even better as he earned consensus first team All-American honors. That season he averaged 18.9 ppg and 9.4 rpg, while shooting 50.7% from the field and a career high 87.0% from the line. a staggering number for a low post player. But that’s not all. Displaying excellent defense, Gomes also averaged 1.6 spg. But Gomes also added the three point shot to his repertoire, making 29, good for 33.3%, after making none in the first two years. His senior year was equally impressive with 21.6 ppg and 8.2 rpg, though somehow that only got him Honorable Mention All-American honors. Gomes three point shooting, once a non-entity, now was a major weapon as he made 52 of them for an impressive 38.0%.

Finished his career with 2,138 points and 1,028 rebounds. In conference play, his 1,173 points and 534 rebounds are both 9th best all-time, while his 435 made field goals is 5th best all-time in the conference. Drafted by the Boston Celtics in the second round, and played there for two seasons, before playing the past season for the Minnesota Timberwolves. He currently has a three year of average of 11.0 ppg in his three year NBA career.
