One of the most decorated players in the history of the Big East, the 6’10” Murphy was a rare combination of great shooting big man and tenacious rebounder.

It didn’t take long for Murphy to show he was a star, winning Rookie of the Year honors with freshman totals of 19.2 ppg, 9.9 rpg, and 53.8% from the floor. His 10.3 rpg as a freshman is the best in conference history. But that was only the beginning for Murphy as the next two years ended in conference Player of the Year and 1st Team All-American honors. As a sophomore, Murphy had career highs of 22.7 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 1.4 spg, and 80.8% from the line. As a junior, the numbers dropped some, but the dominance was still complete with 21.8 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 1.6 bpg, and 76.6% from the line.

Despite leaving early for the NBA, Murphy is one of only two players in conference history, along with Richard Hamilton, to total over 2,000 points in a three year career. His total of 2,011 points was matched by 924 rebounds, and his 21.3 ppg and 9.9 rpg both rank 5th all-time in Big East play.

He was the 14th pick of the Golden State Warriors and recently finished his seventh year in the league. He currently has a 11.4 ppg career average.
