The NJ Roadrunners were one of the early games of the 2009 Hoop Group Summer Classic East, tipping off the first set of games at 9 AM and their main attraction, Kyrie Irving, brought out the college coaches.
Staff members from Kentucky, Memphis (Josh Pastner), Georgia Tech (Paul Hewitt), Indiana, Duke, Notre Dame and Seton Hall were very noticeable in their efforts to see Irving in action.
“Feels great,” Irving told NBE’s Matt Whitfield after the contest. “I enjoy seeing all these coaches here. I just wanted to put on a show here.”
Irving’s list still stands at 10 schools and he is unsure of his plans for official visits this fall. In addition to ND and SHU, Connecticut is also on his list from the Big East. Irving confirmed that he very well could announce his decision via a twitter tweet with the time comes.
Irving recently attended the Lebron James Skills Academy and the King City Classic last week. He was also present when Jordan Crawford threw down ‘the dunk’ on King James himself, but Irving does not see what the big hoopla is.
“He was playing like 70%,” Irving said of James. “It wasn’t anything serious. It wasn’t as bad as they make it seem.”
Irving told NBE it has been something that has definitely been blown out of proportion.
