BIG EAST NEWS & NOTES (10/22/2008)

October 22, 2008 by NBE Blogger · 1 Comment

There is a smorgasboard of Big East news and articles today for fans to peruse and find something that interests them as it is Big East Media Day at Madison Squad Garden. The Big East Coaches Poll Results were published earlier today and now everyone is weighing in on their thoughts on the league’s players, teams and coaches, truly something for EVERYONE in today’s news and notes with links upon links to check out.

Other news of the day is a little slow, however there is a little recruiting update regarding Seton Hall to find on the site as well as a former Pirate working hard to preserve a local court dear to him.

For Former Seton Hall star Terry Dehere, he has the Ball Back in His Court (Jersey City News) as once again he is putting for the money to fix a neighborhood court that he grew up playing on. Dehere would go on to star at St. Anthony’s High School in Jersey City and is the Pirates’ all-time leading scorer. The park already bears his name as he donated $75,000 several years ago to renovate the Garfield Ave park.

Dehere is one of the all-time greats at SHU and will take his place among the NBE’s Big East All-Time Top 50 Players in due time…

Seton Hall might have gotten some good news on the recruiting trail with the commitment of Jordan Williams to Maryland. The Terps and Pirates were both in hot pursuit of Patterson (NC) School’s Arsalan Kazemi, along with Rice and new schools seemingly everyday. However, Maryland is likely out of (frontcourt) scholarships for the class of 2009 and with Kazemi Visiting Seton Hall First (ZagsBlog.net) this coming weekend, things could move quickly and the Pirates could pick up that elusive first 2009 commitment (the only BE school without one to this point).

Zach Smart has also profiled a couple other SHU targets in recent days:
Famous on the Recruiting Radar (Jarrid Famous)
Go (Big) East Young Man (Karron Johnson)
